AllegroSurf Case Study

Case Study - Morning Dove Child Care
Background: Morning Dove Child Care is a daycare center that facilitates newborns through sixth graders. The owners of Morning Dove pride themselves on their state of the art computer network, which includes Internet access for the older kids.
Problem: The owners at Morning Dove wanted to give the older students access to the Internet, but were very concerned about the staff having to spend an excessive amount of time monitoring the kids' surfing habits. The owners also wanted to guarantee to the parents that their children would not be able to access any objectionable content.
Solution: To limit the web sites that the children can to visit, AllegroSurf was installed and configured with a default user group for the children who access only the sites on the Approved Sites List. Only sites that the staff approves are added to the list.
Benefits: Since the staff does not have to monitor the content of the web sites that the children are viewing, the owners are confident that the staff is giving full attention to all of the children, instead of having to closely monitor the children surfing the Internet. Usually, monitoring Internet usage requires very close supervision due to the large amount of objectionable material that can be easily viewed both intentionally and unintentionally.
Summary: The owners of Morning Dove feel that AllegroSurf has given them a great way to keep up with technology and allow children to use the Internet for educational purposes. It also allows them to monitor the Internet activities of the staff to make sure they are not using the Internet for any purposes other than those related to their normal duties.
